Hip Hotels Get Smart About Waste

IMAG0009-1A friend of the company's recently snapped this photo inside aloft Hotel - we thought it was pretty smart. Rather than stocking the bathroom with those disposable travel-sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner these rooms have dispensers right in the shower.

In an interview with MSNBCPat Maher, the green consultant for the American Hotel and Lodging Association, said, “Right now, half a million of those little shampoo bottles end up in landfills every day. Hotels that say they’re eco-friendly establishments and doing all those things they do with the greening of their hotels ... will start getting complaints if people stay at their hotels and they don’t have soap dispensers.”

Although the article includes complaints from guests at some of the hotels that have already switched to dispensers, we think it's a brilliant move.

Next time you travel, encourage the place where you stay to make the switch. And don't for get to bring your own travel bottles so you don't have to use the ones provided.

8th Grader Uses EarthTote in Award-winning Science Project

When eighth grader Samantha Beckett emailed us to let us know she'd be using an ACME EarthTote for her science project entitled The Effect of Reusable Bag Type on Tensile Strength, Liquid Retention, Stability, Washability, Compactness, and Capacity we couldn't wait to send it to her and read her report!

We were thrilled to find out Samantha's report took first place in the California State Science Fair Junior Division. Check out her report above for evidence that reusable bags are the best option, and see all winning the projects here.

Congratulations, Samantha!
